Apple, Google and the other tech giants have unveiled plans to change the way we drive. Or, if their visions come to fruition, the way our cars will drive us. A suite of new technologies is poised to alter our relationship to our automobiles, the companies they conspire with to sell us things, and traffic cops.
While it’s true that you might be able to read a book (or book-shaped tablet) en route to your destination, your car may end up taking detours to slow-roll you past certain storefronts. And if you take the wheel back and try to make up for lost time, your car may call the police on you for speeding.
The ten technologies described below are all in development for release in the near future.
“Driver. There is another human equally as biological and revolting as yourself behind my wheel. Would you like me to terminate them?”
Your car will be able to look deeply into the eyes of anyone who gets behind its wheel and judge their intentions. If a stranger gets in, the car will call you to ask if you gave one of your friends permission to drive it. Creepy? Absolutely!
